Martin Yund is Centralia High School’s Student of the Month for April. He is the son of Ryan and Shawn Yund and is a senior this year.
Yund is involved in basketball and FFA. He also works at Shelton Seed. Yund’s favorite classes are Food Science and Ag Construction. He enjoys these classes because he likes to cook, weld, learn about different foods and work on machinery, such as lawnmowers.
This year Yund will compete in the FFA state contest on the Ag Mechanics team. He also enjoys fishing, hunting and working on old cars. Yund is also attending Hart Career Center this year for Auto Mechanics.
Yund’s career goals include having his own tire shop. He feels like he would also love to work on race cars one day. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Lori Lewis because she makes his class fun.
Lewis, one of the FFA sponsors, nominated Yund for this recognition. Her favorite memory with Yund has been working with him and the Ag Mechanics team in preparation for contests this spring. Lewis says that Yund brings a great sense of humor to the group but, at the same time, has a lot of knowledge that he is willing to share with his teammates so that the entire team can continue to improve. Lewis feels Yund’s qualities set him apart from other students his age. “Martin works extremely hard at perfecting the skills that he will use in his future career and pays attention to detail in all of it,” she said.
