CHS principal Dr. Matt Smith named Darek Wiss as Centralia High School’s December Student of the Month. Wiss is a senior at CHS, and he is the son of David and Donna Wiss. His favorite classes are Lifetime Sports and Personal Finance.

According to Smith, Wiss has established his own business, which he named Untamed Metal Art. He has an active website for orders and has a strong clientele. This business keeps him very busy, especially over the holidays. He has gained a lot of the metalwork and welding skills in Mrs. Lori Lewis’s shop class. He has also refined those skills on his own over the years. “We are very impressed with, and proud of, Darek’s entrepreneurial efforts and the growing business he is cultivating,” said Smith.

Lewis, CHS ag educator, nominated Wiss for Student of the Month. Lewis said, “He is focused on his goals of graduating early and beginning his college career and is using this business to achieve those goals.”

Wiss has been accepted into the University of Missouri and plans to graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering. He is graduating early this year and plans to start college in January. Wiss has advice to give to other students about being a hard worker: “Don’t procrastinate anything…ever! Get everything done as soon as possible.”
