In Kindergarten, we work on learning sight words all year long! Sight words are the small words you see in texts frequently, sometimes called high frequency words, or snap words. Words you know in a snap! We will learn and practice over 100 different words throughout the school year. Sight words are very important for your child to learn because, believe it or not, sight words account for up to 75% of the words used in beginning children’s books. Sight words cannot always be easily sounded out, so they need to be learned. The knowledge of those words are essential with both reading and writing. In Kindergarten at CES, we have a variety of ways to practice sight words. We use songs/dances from CD’s called Heidi songs, we have sight word practice packets, we play lots of games, and practice reading and writing them daily.
