Dr. Matt Smith, CHS principal, honored Xaden Lockett as the CHS March Student of the Month. Lockett, CHS senior, is not only a great student, but he is also a valuable member of our music department and our sports teams. Lockett is the son of Heather Russell, Ryan Russell and Tim Lockett.
Lockett greatly appreciates earning this award, saying that it makes him feel loved and that he likes people seeing him as a good person.
Lockett participates in football, track, wrestling, Chamber Choir, Band, SKRUBS and Beta Chi Pi. Chamber Choir is one of his favorite classes. He enjoys seeing his friends and Mrs. Rolfson, the CHS choir teacher, who is like a mom to him. His other favorite class is Advanced Chemistry, which provides a fun way of learning.
He has had a successful senior year in track. Lockett threw his personal shot put record of 50 ft. this year. He is currently ranked 3rd in state, 1st in the CCC, 1st in Districts and 1st in Sectionals.
Lockett’s favorite aspect of CHS is developing close relationships with other athletes through sports programs like track .“Everyone has a sibling-like relationship with each other and having people I consider brothers and sisters definitely helps with the hardships we face during sports.”
This year has been a special one for Lockett in choir as well. Because of COVID-19, the tryout process for both district and state choir was virtual. He had to sight-read and sing a difficult song. His hard work paid off, and he earned gold on his state solo and octet. Additionally, he earned district choir honors all four years. “I am truly blessed for the things I have received,” Locket said.
Outside of school and sports, Lockett likes to hunt and fish. He also is employed at Subway and Central Missouri Lawn Care.
After graduating high school, Lockett plans to attend CMU in business with a focus on marketing. He earned a scholarship for the CMU choir, and he will be a walk-on for their track team. Eventually, Lockett wants to become a market manager for a big business.
