Dr. Matt Smith, CHS principal, awarded Mr. Nathan Watson, CHS history teacher, with the March Arrangement of the Month. This is Watson’s fourth and last year teaching in Centralia.
Smith recognized Watson to show his appreciation for all his hard work over the past years in the R-VI district. He wanted Watson to know he would be missed here at CHS.
“Mr. Watson is an extremely diligent person. He works very hard to prepare lessons and materials that will engage students in discussion and debate. Although he is still in the early years of his career, Mr. Watson has a tremendous wealth of knowledge in his discipline and is a great resource for prompting student thought on a variety of history and government topics,” said Smith.
Watson and his wife, Rachel, are moving to Iowa City this summer. Mrs. Watson is doing her medical residency through the University of Iowa. Watson plans to teach middle school or high school social studies in or around Iowa City.
Leaving Centralia is bittersweet for Watson. Although he will miss Centralia, Watson is excited to embrace the new opportunities coming his way. Watson is proud of the relationships he has developed with the students and people in the school and community.
“I will miss all of my students the most. I feel like I have been fortunate to have great students that I’ve taught and coached and I will definitely miss out on continuing that,” he said.
Watson attended the University of Arkansas from 2012-2017. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Social Studies. He then went to graduate from the University of Missouri in 2020 with a specialist degree in educational leadership and policy analysis.
