Chester Boren Middle School (CBMS) welcomes Mr. Austin Bruner, 8th grade history teacher, for the 2021-2022 school year.

Bruner graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.

Before coming to Centralia, Bruner was a special education teacher at Savannah High School in Savannah, Missouri. He then taught in Marceline, Missouri, as the middle school social studies teacher. He chose Centralia as his next school district, because he moved to Columbia, and he liked the size and reputation of Centralia.

Bruner enjoys teaching history, with a strong passion for the subject. “History is a subject that can be interpreted in many different ways, and that is exciting for me,” said Bruner.

He explains his motivation for teaching, “Helping students and building quality relationships is why I chose to teach. I enjoy getting to know my students and helping them to see the best in themselves,” Bruner said.

Bruner is engaged to his fiance, Amelia. She is an Occupational Therapy Assistant in Columbia.

In his free time, Bruner enjoys spending time with his friends and family. He also likes to watch football, hunt, fish, and do anything involving the outdoors.

Bruner is looking forward to getting to know staff and students at Centralia and experiencing Centralia’s traditions. He has expressed his appreciation, saying, “The community, staff, and students have been very welcoming to me. They have made sure that I have everything that I need to be successful and feel like I am a part of something great.”
