Mr. Alex Schmersahl is a new addition to the Centralia R-VI School District as a CBMS Physical Education teacher. Schmersahl attended University of Central Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.

After college, Schmersahl taught at Butler R-5 for two years, teaching Physical Education for grades 7-12.  He then went to the Army Rotary Wing Flight School in Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Following his time in flight school, Schmersahl taught PE at West Platte for pre-K- 6th grade.

Schmersahl was inspired to teach by helping students achieve their dreams. He teaches Physical Education because he enjoys “teaching the biomechanics of different skills that will assist students in being lifelong movers,” Schmersahl said.

Both Schmersahl and his wife Allison were born and raised in Centralia. She is a Radiology Technologist at University Hospital. They have a dog named Merle, and they recently had a daughter named Adley. “They both keep us on our toes,” Schmersahl said.

Schmersahl likes to fish, fly, hunt, play golf, play video games and read.

When talking about Centralia, Schmersahl said, “I look forward to giving back to a community that helped raise me and teach me to be the man I am today.”
