Our mission is to address the educational needs of students in special settings. We believe all children can develop a lifelong interest in learning and are entitled to respect and dignity. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment where our students will grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially as they acquire the skills to become productive, effective members of a complex society.

Student Contract
- I agree to take my education seriously and work to my potential.
I understand I must complete the assigned work and maintain at least an 80% average to earn credit. - I agree to attend school regularly and be on time for my classes I understand that time in attendance will be carefully calculated and more than 20% missed time during a quarter will result In zero (0) credit. To receive credit, I must be in attendance for at least 36 of the possible 45 hours for each subject in which I am enrolled per quarter (80%).
*** Absences and tardies will not be evaluated as “excused or unexcused” but merely as missed time. - I agree to treat students, staff, and school property, and myself with respect. I understand there may be times when I disagree or become angry with another individual while attending Champion Academy. I agree to treat this person respectfully and will attempt to work out our differences. My parent(s)/guardian(s) and I understand that if my behavior, language, or overall attitude prevents me from continuing in the classroom, consequences will result. It will be determined by Champion Academy staff if a parents meeting will be required before I can return to class. I understand that absence because of temporary suspension may prevent me from earning credit unless I make up the time prior to the end of the affected quarter.
- I understand that it is unacceptable to come to school under the influence or to use illegal substances while in school. It is my intention to come to school sober and ready to learn. I accept that “drug talk” of any kind is not permitted or tolerated by Champion Academy. My parents and I are aware that violations will result in consequences including possible suspension or expulsion.

Communication Arts
Traditional and Text-Based:
- American Literature introduces students to the experience of reading classis and contemporary literature from a variety of genres. 1 credit
- Basic English is a complete course in the fundamentals of grammar, usage and mechanics. 1 credit
- English Composition teaches the Writing Process in an easy to understand manner. The course is designed to effectively develop writing skills using a variety of writing activities. 1 credit
- Practical English offers a complete course in the real life applications of the English language. Lessons include topics such as smart shopping, English on the job, and independent living. 1 credit
- World Literature is a theme-based anthology of short stories, poetry, autobiographical selections, and essays from around the world. 1 credit
PLATO Computerized Learning System:
- Essential Reading Skills refreshes basic skills and introduces strategies for reading fluency. ¼ credit
- Fundamental Reading Strategies presents state-of-the-art reading strategies and practice lessons which enhance student comprehension. Course includes vocabulary, reading between the lines, and separating fact from opinion. ½ credit
- Intermediate Reading Strategies builds on skills introduced in the Fundamental Reading Strategies course and adds summarizing skills, visualizing while reading, and the use of graphics. ½ credit
- Advanced Reading Strategies is a college preparatory offering which helps develop reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. This course offers suggested strategies for reading various subject areas such as literature, history, and science. ½ credit
- Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension offers extensive and challenging comprehensive practice through stories, narrative text, information, and expository text. ¼ credit
- Reading for Information provides the key reading comprehension and critical thinking skills needed to work with the written resources in a typical workplace. Examples are within an adult work environment. ½ credit
- Writing in the Workplace teaches a proven process aimed at developing workplace writing skills. ¼ credit
- Communication Skills teaches listening and speaking skills that are essential in effective interpersonal communication and team building as well as how to listen to and give presentations. ¼ credit
- Writing Series provides instruction in grammar and mechanics, and walks students through the writing process from idea development to organization to revision. 1 credit
- Intermediate Writing Process deepens writing skills through strategies such as critically evaluating sources, devising a research plan, and focusing on the needs of an audience. ¼ credit

Mathematics
Traditional and Text-Based:
- Practical Mathematics for Consumers helps students understand, retain, and apply math skills in the areas of money management, banking, credit card math, everyday living, and more. 1 credit
- Personal Finance covers topics including budgeting, the importance of saving, bank accounts and services, establishing and maintaining good credit, planning for college, buying a car, basic investing, and more. ½ credit
- Basic Mathematics guides students from understanding whole numbers and basic arithmetic operations to a mastery of simple geometry and algebra. 1 credit
- Mathematics Concepts gives basic math skills needed throughout life and helps students understand arithmetic operations, introduces algebraic concepts, and includes problem solving and estimation. 1 credit
- Pre-Algebra presents the concepts and skills needed to take Algebra with confidence. The course teaches the essentials of problem solving, calculator usage, and application lessons that show how algebra is integrated with related content areas such as geometry, probability and statistics. 1 credit
- Algebra I teaches key elements of algebra in a step-by-step approach. The content provides students of all abilities with essential preparation in problem solving, calculator usage, and application lessons that demonstrate how algebra is integrated with related content areas such as geometry, probability and statistics. This course helps prepare students for end-of-course tests. 1 credit
- Algebra 2 covers several methods for solving quadratic equations, such as factoring, completing the square, and graphing. The course also introduces trigonometry and exponential functions. 1 credit
- Geometry presents a thorough investigation of the world of planes and solids and takes students beyond the basics. It explores geometric solids, triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, quadratic equations, length, area, and volume. 1 credit
PLATO Computerized Learning System:
- Math Fundamentals is designed to provide instruction in number and operation through geometry and measurement. Problem solving strategies are embedded across the curriculum, giving students exposure to real-life problems and solution. 1 credit
- Math Problem Solving / Applied Math encourages exploration and application of mathematical concepts from basic computation to advanced algebra in solving real-life, multi-step problems. This course also teaches the practical math skills essential for success in the modern workplace. 1 credit
- Algebra I, Part 1 includes a pre-algebra curriculum which teaches students the foundation skills needed to understand and apply algebraic concepts. ½ credit
- Algebra I, Part 2 builds on the skills learned in Part 1 with instruction and practice on sets and numbers, polynomials and factoring, and equations and inequalities. ½ credit
- Algebra II, Part 1 provides instructions in the core algebra topics including rational expressions, graphs, and linear equations and probability. ½ credit
- Algebra II, Part 2 extends students’ mathematical literacy, providing them with the background for trigonometry and calculus and preparing them for today’s high tech jobs. ½ credit
- Geometry and Measurements offers basic geometric and measurement concepts, relationships, and theorems. ½ credit
- Trigonometry provides students with the skills to understand concepts such as right angle trigonometry, circular functions, trigonometric identities, and equations. ½ credit
- Calculus 1 introduces the fundamentals of differential and integral calculus and provides a foundation for further study in calculus or in other fields where knowledge of calculus is required. ½ credit
- Calculus 2 is the second semester of a course in the fundamentals of differential and integral calculus. ½ credit
- Data Skills introduces students to reading and interpreting charts and graphs, essential skills in today’s workplace. Examples are presented in a workplace setting. ½ credit

Traditional and Text-Based:
- General Science provides manageable lessons with essential vocabulary and expanded real-world features. This course introduces the basic concepts of life, physical, and earth science. 1 credit
- Earth Science provides basic instruction about Earth, planets, atoms, elements, oceans, and climate and meets national science standards. 1 credit
- Physical Science helps students learn the properties of matter, elements, compounds, electricity, and sound and light. Students also gain practice in working with data and sharpen their abilities to infer, classify, and theorize. 1 credit
- Biology provides comprehensive coverage of essential content in a readable format. The course prepares students to understand and apply the science concepts needed to meet academic standards and improve test performance. 1 credit
- Chemistry presents chemistry fundamentals and provides connections between chemistry and the environment, technology, and consumer choices. It also presents real-life problems and their chemistry-related solutions. 1 credit
- Health provides clearly stated subject matter, engaging graphics, and self-paced learning to help students develop an enriched understanding of key health concepts. 1 credit
PLATO Computerized Learning System:
- Biology Series utilizes animation, narration, and interaction to demonstrate biological concepts. Provides interactive lessons and vocabulary, as well as pre- and post-tests for assessments. 1 credit
- Chemistry Series provides interactive lessons and hands-on problem solving to teach and then reinforce chemical concepts. The interactive periodic table that is included provides a wealth of information for each element. 1 credit
- Advanced Chemistry 1 is a college preparatory offering which teaches basic concepts relating to the measurements and manipulation of chemical substances. ½ credit
- Advanced Chemistry 2 is a college preparatory offering which presents the traditional content of second semester chemistry, including reactions cases of equilibrium, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. ½ credit
- Advanced Physics 1 is a college preparatory offering which provides a basic understanding of the fundamental physical laws and is designed to increase a learner’s ability to solve problems. 1 credit

- Economics helps students understand basic economic concepts and skills and shows them how economic principles impact everyday life. 1 credit
- United States History is a complete course in the fundamentals of the history of the United States and its people. The course invites students of all abilities to make connections between history and their own lives. 1 credit
- American Government introduces students to the intricacies of the federal, state, and local governments and the rights and responsibilities of students as U.S. citizens. 1 credit
- World History introduces students to the story of the world’s people and events, from the very earliest times to the present. 1 credit
- World Geography and Cultures introduces students to different regions of the world, the physical features of the earth, and cultural topics of special interest. The course helps students learn the relevance of world geography and cultures in their own lives. 1 credit
- United States Geography begins with an examination of the five themes of geography and presents the physical, cultural, and economic characteristics of the regions of the United States. 1 credit
PLATO Computerized Learning System:
- World View American History I and II is a college preparatory offering which explores and analyzes the history of the United States from the Age of Exploration to the presidency of George W. Bush. 1 credit
- World View US Government is a comprehensive coverage of American politics and government which includes chapters on Congress, political culture, political parties, voting, the federal bureaucracy, and the presidency. 1 credit
- World View History I and II is a college preparatory course which analyzes the history of mankind from the Neolithic period to the beginning of the Middle Ages. 1 credit
- World View History III and IV is a college preparatory survey covering the period from the Medieval Period to the present. 1 credit

Traditional and Text-based:
- Careers presents information aimed toward workplace competencies and foundation skills. Content includes career choices, types of careers, and building a career. This class can be taken alone for 1 credit or as the coursework component of the 3 credit VWP class.
- Computer Literacy presents a clear and uncomplicated introduction to computers. Takes students through every aspect of computer application and usage, from explaining hardware and software through browsing the internet. 1 credit
